What happens if you win? Lots of good stuff…even if you don't win.

All photos have the opportunity to be included as part of a traveling exhibition that will tour select Classic Towns. Plus, there's the chance that your photo will be used on Classic Town's website, in one of its publications, or in the publications of DVRPC. If that happens, you'll receive credit as photographer and can tell your friends, families, and coworkers that you've been published.

Let's talk prizes.

Our judges will award one prize in each of the seven categories — community, local history, parks and recreation, seasonal, people, main street, and residential. They will also award a Judges' Choice Award (Best of Show) worth $500. A $300 Viewer's Choice Award is also up for grabs. The total value for prizes is $1,500 and breaks down like this:

$500 Best in Show (overall)
$300 Voters' Choice (overall)
$100 Best Community
$100 Best Local History
$100 Best Main Street
$100 Best Parks & Recreation
$100 Best People
$100 Best Residential
$100 Best Seasonal

Winners will be notified beginning July 15, 2012 via the preferred contact method and must respond within 7 days. Should the winner not respond, the award will go to the runner up per category. We will announce final winners no later than July 31, 2012. We ask that winners keep their success confidential until a formal announcement is made. Failure to do so will result in a forfeit of prizes.

Contest Rules and Restrictions
DVRPC’s I Love Classic Towns Photo Contest runs from February 13, 2012 through July 31, 2012 with deadlines for Photo Submission (April 14, 2012), Public Voting (April 15, 2012 – May 14, 2012), and Formal Judging (May 15, 2012 – July 15, 2012).

All submissions must be made at contest.classictowns.org using a valid email address. There is no limit to the number of photos entered per person or the number of photos one person may enter into a category. Photos must be of one of the Classic Towns of Greater Philadelphia and taken on or after January 1, 2010. Photographers do not need to be residents of any of the Classic Towns to enter the contest.

The contest is not open to employees of DVRPC and their families, employees and families of Paragraph, Inc., and employees and families of contest sponsors.

Submission Details
Photos must be submitted in one of the following formats: .jpg, .gif, or, .png (2 MB max), and be capable of being reproduced at a scale of 18 by 20 inches. DVRPC may request additional files up to 300 dpi or 5MB for future reproduction as part of the traveling exhibition. DVRPC will cover the cost of reproduction, if necessary.

If photos depict recognizable individuals, the photographer must have permission from the person depicted in the photograph. They must also be able to submit a waiver granting permission upon request. If photos depict recognizable individuals under 18 years of age, the photographer must be the child’s legal guardian or have permission from a parent/legal guardian of each child depicted in the photo to submit the entry into the contest. Further, the photographer must also be able to submit a waiver upon request with the parent/legal guardian’s signature.

Submissions must be the sole creation of the photographer. Each entry may not have won previous awards, may not have been published previously, and must not be awaiting publication or consideration in another contest. Additionally, the photo must be suitable for all ages, not obscene or indecent. DVRPC retains the rights to dismiss any photos based on general standards of acceptability and decency.

Use
By entering this contest, you agree to release the rights of use of your submitted photograph(s). DVRPC will maintain a nonexclusive license for a period of 10 (ten) years. During the initial ten years and beyond, DVRPC will have the rights to use the photos in marketing, promotions, publications, and print and online communications. DVRPC will not sell or lease the photos to any other party. The photographer will have the right to sell or use his or her photo during the nonexclusive license period. The contest sponsors will have access to the winning photos only.

Whether the photos are used by DVRPC, the contest sponsors, or displayed as part of the traveling exhibition, in all cases, the photographer will receive prominent credit either on the photo or in the corresponding material.

Further, because DVRPC is a non-profit, government-affiliated agency, it will only be providing compensation as it relates to the contest winners in the seven categories.

Select photos may also be included in a traveling exhibition that will tour the Classic Towns.

Voting and Selection
On April 15, 2012, the contest will be open to public voting. Public voting will remain open online until May 14, 2012. Voting will be restricted to seven votes (photos) per IP address per 24 hours. Once online voting has closed, the photos with the highest votes from each category will go before the judge’s panel who will select winners in each category as well as the overall winner. Judging will happen between May 15, 2012 and July 15, 2012.
